Philip Lieberman, JD, MBA, BA, CIM®

Senior Portfolio Manager

Drawing on more than 30 years of experience across wealth management, capital markets and the law, Philip Lieberman brings a disciplined, risk-first approach to advising high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth individuals and families throughout Canada.  As a Senior Portfolio Manager, Philip works closely with clients to develop bespoke financial plans and manages discretionary investment portfolios on their behalf, including their trusts, estates, holding companies and foundations.

Philip works with multiple generations of families, guiding clients through complex transitions such as liquidity events, succession planning, significant life events and intergenerational wealth transfer.

Over nearly two decades as a Managing Partner at KJ Harrison Investors, Philip played a key role in building the firm and its legacy, contributing to its growth to over $2.3 billion in assets under management. He was a key participant in the strategic decision to partner with Harbourfront Wealth and in the successful execution of the firm’s sale. In this next chapter for the KJH Investors team, Philip is excited to bring the depth and breadth of Harbourfront Wealth’s resources to further support clients’ long-term financial objectives.

With deep experience spanning investment management as well as investment banking, corporate finance and tax, estate and trust law, Philip is first and foremost a manager of risk. He brings a holistic and highly disciplined approach to wealth management, with a strong emphasis on capital preservation and thoughtfully constructed portfolios designed to endure across market cycles and life events.

Earlier in his career, Philip was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1993 and practised corporate, securities and mergers & acquisitions law at Meighen Demers LLP (now Norton Rose Fulbright). He then spent 12 years at Scotia Capital, the global corporate and investment banking arm of Bank of Nova Scotia. Between 2003 and 2008, he served as Managing Director and Industry Head, Industrial Products, and was a member of the Scotia Capital Investment Banking leadership team.

Philip is highly engaged in his community and committed to the philanthropic principle of “repairing the world.” He served for over 15 years on the Board of Directors of the National Ballet of Canada, most recently as Chair of the Pension Committee and as a member of both the Joint Investment Committee and its Endowment Foundation. He currently serves on the Israel & Overseas Committee of UJA Federation of Greater Toronto and is a member of the Board of Directors of Beit Halochem Canada.

Philip lives in Toronto with his wife, daughter and son. Outside of investing, Philip enjoys cycling, golfing and skiing, as well as reading historical biographies.
